The Discount Coupon page has the following text regarding one-time coupons:
There is a short period of time between when a person enters the coupon and when they pay, during that period someone else may use the same coupon.

Does this mean that one-time coupons are only valid for one customer?

Can I issue a discount coupon to be used one time EACH *per customer*?

    Thanks,

    Gil

No, A one time use coupon is only good one time. Not one time per person. Each customer would need their own coupon.

My reading would be that if you select 'one time only' then it is just that, apart from the problem window mentioned. When a coupon has been used by any customer, it no is longer valid.

In general the cart does not recognize customers.

To provide a once-per-customer facility for known customers who have an account number with you you could use a bulk upload of coupons, and tell them to use their account number as the coupon code.

It's not obvious how you can offer a 'once each' for any customers.

(But I haven't used coupons so I'm speculating!)

That's similar to what I ended up doing. I couldn't do it by ShopperID, because for some unknown reason the ShopperID changes with every order. Some of my repeat customers have 3 ShopperIDs.

I uploaded one coupon per customer on the bulk upload page, and then (since the coupon is as a reward for completing a survey), I'll ask each customer to call or email for a one-time coupon code that they can use on their next order.

It's not exactly efficient, but I think it's the best I can do under the circumstances.

Thanks Debbie and Alan for your help.

There appears to be a shopperid counter for each server which is incremented for each new cart.

So the shopperids you see will be increasing and are unlikely to be consecutive.
