    I'm not sure how to do this:

    we are offering gift certificates, and we are told that we should NOT charge sales tax on purchases of the gift certificates. And to further complicate - we need to charge sales tax on the cost of mailing the gift certificates to whomever purchased them.

    We sell other items as well, which DO require sales tax to be charged.

    Is it possible to configure the gift certificates to NOT charge sales tax? What if someone buys a taxable item, plus a non-taxable item at the same time?

    Thank you!

    Having trouble with a form or need one building?
    Fast turnaround, but I do charge :)

    Mal's Forms / Scripts and the syntax are here.

    Ah ha! Looks good! A question or two, of course.

    Does this override what we have configured in the general "cart setup" area where we specified how much tax to charge based on shipping destination? (7% if shipping to WA state)

    And so, for our situation, we should add:
    input type="hidden" name="tax2" value="0">
    - - only on the untaxed gift certificates?

    Thank you so much.

    Hello there!

    This appears NOT to override the general tax settings in the cart. We setup the cart to charge sales tax on orders shipping to WA state. Here is the form code I just did for the Gift Certificates. We'd like to have NO TAX on the gift certificate itself, but are required to charge tax on mailing the certificate. Goofy, I know. Here is the code I'm using:

    <form action="http://ww7.aitsafe.com/cf/add.cfm"; method="post">
    <input name="userid" type="hidden" value="92235932">
    <input type="hidden" name="units" value=".15" />
    <input name="product" type="hidden" value="My Angel Gift Certificate">
    <input name="price" type="hidden" value="24.95">
    <input type="hidden" name="tax" value="0">
    <input type="hidden" name="return" value="www.myangelyouareloved.com/DRAFT"; />
    <input type="submit" value="Buy Now!">
    </form>

    When testing it out, the cart still adds 7% sales tax on the cost of the certificate + its shipping fee, rather than taxing ONLY the shipping fee.

    Never mind! I think I've solved it.

    I finally realized that I had to change the general cart settings for sales tax, and entered sales tax amounts product by product rather than one blanket statement. Now, tax=0 works. Thank you!
