I have 4 websites for different proucts with different flat shipping rates.

They all go through 1 cart so customers can shop between the websites and only end up paying 1 shipping charge being the highest one.

They currently select from fours zones asking (includings product1) - (includes product2) etc etc

Works for about 80% of orders.

Is is possible to post shipping charges to the cart and the cart only charge once for shipping and using the highest charge.

Suppose you have four charges, say 2, 3, 5, and 7.

And that for products with a charge of 2 you define a units value of 0.01. For those with a charge of 3 the units value is 1. If 5 then 100, and if 7 then 10000. Using standard shipping option 7 you define one zone table

    UNITS COST
0.99 ____ 2 _____ if the units total is less than 1, the order is for only '2' class products
99 _____ 1 ______ if more than 1 but less than 100, at least one class '3' product is there
    9999 ___ 2 ______ there must be a class '5' product
rest ____ 2 ______ at least one class '7' product

This approach ignores the actual number of items. 5 class'3' items will cost the same to ship as 1. That was how I read your description.

I also assumed that order quantities within a product class are normally less than 100. If more are ordered the charge will be pushed up into the next band.
