Google has requirements for the shopping carts of advertisers who want to add a Special Promotion flag to their Product Listing Ads. This requires a customer to enter a valid coupon code in the cart and that the code generates it's own line in the body of the cart above the total (the customer would have to hit "Recalculate").

As I read the documentation in Mals for Gift Vouchers and Coupon Codes, every current choice impacts the price via either discounts or free shipping.

In my case, I would like to offer the customer a free gift with purchase: a separate incentive item to receive with their order.

Is there any way to do this on the checkout screens?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Log in to your cart account, under 'Advanced settings', look for...
    UPSELLING AND ADD-ONS
Upsell additional products and services: gift wrap, insurance or similar products and services.

You can select which page this is shown on when you see the addon is...

    Upselling add-on products and services

You can enter up to twenty products which you sell directly from inside the shopping cart. This can be used to offer linked products related to those in the cart already or services such as gift wrap or insurance.

Enter the header to appear above these products in the cart (for example: You may wish to consider):

I see that option, thank you for the suggestion. Upselling seems to present a Buy Now button, no data entry for a coupon code. I wonder if that can be programmed differently?

You can edit the upselling link to say anything you want. So if all the coupon codes are the same what if you made the upselling link the coupon code so the customer didn't have to enter it they just had to click it?

Hi Debbie. I misunderstood your question when you asked if all are the same. I need the card to have the customer enter a code and for the cart then to match it. Currently, as I see the upselling section, the customer can just click away without having a specific code.

OK, why not have a message at the cart with a link back to your website, on the page they can enter their code and pass the product back to Mals.
