Our discount codes will expire on 12/31/2009, and I was checking them and saw this message:
*You are strongly encouraged to migrate your old discount coupons to the new system!

How do I migrate our old coupon codes to the new system?

    Thanks in advance!

My guess is you have to set them up in the new system manually by hand.

I didn't know there was a new system but it looks good. It looks like you can add as many vouchers as you want and you can limit them to one time use. The code they suggest is long but much more secure. I have had people use other carts discount codes on my cart before.

I went back and looked and it does look more user-friendly~

we too have a number of repeat customers with exclusive discounts and this would be great for adding more than the previous 5 we were limited to before :)

funny little sidenote: we have one repeat customer who comes in about every 4-6 months, and tries to put in her own unique code to the cart: FREESHIP11/07
    ....It never works! : P

going to go try the new system out now, see how it works :)

UPDATE: to update the cart boxes:

#1 Go to Gift Vouchers tab, and uncheck where is says:
"Enable a text box in the cart where people can enter their gift voucher"

#2 Go to Cart Setup: Discounts > Discount Coupons > and at the top in bold yellow:

! Click here to enable the discount coupon entry box in the cart.

That takes out that extra box which confuses people enormously, causing them to enter their discount into the wrong box. Previously we had 2 boxes showing in the cart for Discount codes, and Gift Vouchers, very confusing.

After doing these two steps, I got the discount coupons to work~

So the discount voucher and gift certificate use the same box now? Much less confusing. I wondered if that was going to be the case since it looked like the voucher code it was giving looked similar to a gift certificate code.

Rather than use the same box, I've just disabled the Gift Certif box for now-we issued dozens of gift certificates this year and only 2 people used them-I think when they get to the 2 boxes in the cart, they are uncertain which box to use and just don't use them, or forget they have it... not sure if we'll pursue that one again, and just opt to give them a Discount code as credit in the future....will think on it more~ :/

A heads-up would have been nice, but it does seem easier to use - now that I found where to get back to the old vouchers!

    Yep,

I found the old vouchers by accident :
    Go to Cart Setup: :
    Discounts
    * Discount coupons :
Lower right corner under "Add New Coupon":
*Click here to access old style discount coupons...

    Voila~ :)

Can't get too comfortable with leaving things alone without checking in Admin once in a while~ :)

I like the news system, but is there a way to only make the coupon have a date for maybe 2 weeks instead of at the end of a certain month. I would like to have coupons to only last a few days sometimes. Thanks,

Just delete it when you want it to end. No more voucher in setup means no more discount.
